Christmas is one of the few moments during the year when families gather together and people think about what is important in life. Do the money, the success or the accomplishments matter the most? What do they give you during celebration times as Christmas? The little kids consider Christmas a celebration based on many material toys and presents. Is actually Christmas about spending as much money as you can afford to buy presents for your beloved people? The material side is ruling lives of most people. What has happened with the real values of Christmas?
Christmas is this miraculous time of the year when everything is possible. Yes, I said everything. When you stop dreaming, your spirit dies. Dreams, goals and miracles are what keep you moving forward, doing more, and becoming more. I believe the best way to teach anything is by setting your own example. Words get lost in the context and we forget to act. Acting and doing it with purpose is the only vehicle moving you forward in life and business. Waiting and wishing something to happen is maybe comfortable but does not bring any value – emotional, spiritual or material.
Every New Year comes again with the New Year resolutions and wishes to make changes happen. Unfortunately more than half of the dreamed changes will never take place. No action to create the change, to empower movement and build a new habit. The only person who can start acting in order to change anything is you. No matter how smart, resourceful, educated or creative you are, you need to act. Challenge yourself, start now and you will soon feel the benefits and rewards from taking an action.
I wanted to prove that Christmas is not about material accomplishments; presents bought from huge stores and not personalized gestures. That is why I decided to start a change. Unlike every previous year I did not go to the massive, huge shopping center and I didn’t buy any material presents to anybody. I decided that I would learn to draw because I have always been a terrible painter. So I bought a guide book, pencils and asked a few friends for beginner advices. At Christmas I gave a personalized, drawn by me painting and a letter to all my closest people. My painting may not have been even decently beautiful, but it was created by myself with my hands, effort and mind.
The benefits or personal rewards, as I like to call them, were so many. On top of this I managed to show one little, amazing kid that expensive toys and presents are nice, but you can receive much more through just painting. If I have managed to change even the mindset and opinion of one person I have achieved my goal. Christmas is about miracles, personal gestures, cozy family time and appreciation of everything that you have. The tasty food and presents are just the modern lack of appreciation for the real meaning behind Christmas.
